=======================================================================
ESTERIAN CONQUEST HISTORY OF REVISIONS
=======================================================================
Edited: 07/29/1992
Current EC Version: 1.50: Multi-node galactic battle game that supports
7 major BBS door file formats and is tested on configurations using
NOVELL(tm), Lantastic(tm), and Desqview(tm).
NEW: Two new Fleet missions; an intelligence database that remembers
and displays planet information that players encounter; features to
speed up order entry such as auto-commission from all planets,
ability to order a group of fleets at a time, and enhanced fleet
reports; Registration Key file that allows sysops to convert
revised test-drive versions to registered versions on their BBSs;
and much more...
We kept on listening to our users and found out what they wanted most.
The result is a much improved and more playable version of Esterian
Conquest. Users will enjoy the new missions, the intelligence
database, and the new fleet views to help plan their missions. Sysops
will appreciate our new key file system. With your key file, you can
"unlock" the registered features of any test drive version 1.x so that
you simply download a new test drive and have it behave as a registered
version (no more postage & handling fees for any future 1.x versions).
VERSION 1.50 will be sent to all registered users for a shipping &
handling fee of $4.00.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
VERSION 1.50 (Released 07/29/92):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USER INTERFACE (ECGAME):
1. Two New Missions: (a) RENDEZVOUS - fleets move to and merge at a
specified sector. (b) SALVAGE - fleets move to a planet and
are salvaged as production points at half their value.
2. GROUP ORDERS: order up to 500 fleets on the same mission at the
same time. Save time over ordering them individually.
3. INTELLIGENCE DATABASE: See the status of any planet you viewed or
scouted.
4. AUTO-COMMISSION: Commission Fleets and starbases in all stardocks
with one command. Scouts are commissioned into individual
fleets.
5. FLEET VIEW ENHANCEMENTS: You can now view fleets in order of
increasing distance from a specified sector. When viewing by
ID or Mission, you can now specify a starting value.
6. MESSAGE AND RESULT ENHANCEMENTS: View all messages and results
nonstop. Delete all messages or all results in one step.
7. DETACH AND TRANSFER IMPROVEMENTS: Detach or transfer ships from a
fleet without aborting the original mission. The original
mission aborts only if the original fleet cannot continue it.
8. CHANGE FLEET SPEED as well as ROE and ID.
9. EMPIRE LISTS now show previous year's Planets owned & production.
WHAT'S NEW FOR EC v1.20 - 2 -
VERSION 1.50 (Changes Continued):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
MAINTENANCE (ECMAINT)
1. IMPROVED MEMORY MANAGEMENT - ECMAINT requires less memory.
2. NEW COMBAT SIMULATIONS - damage from fleet-to-fleet or fleet-to-
planet combat is more realistic. Large fleets no longer
demolish small fleets without taking some damage of their own.
Similarly, planets are better able to defend themselves from
invading fleets.
3. ECMAINT /C option now works to close files and force unclaimed
empires to become rogues.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
VERSION 1.11 (Released 05/25/91):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
KNOWN BUGS THAT WERE EXTERMINATED:
1. Fleets occasionally refused to attack planets.
2. On rare occasions, fleets with orders to join a host fleet
mistakenly thought their host was destroyed.
3. Some planets with all armies destroyed suddenly gained a very
large number of armies.
4. Starbases were incorrectly listing fleets as escorts even after
the fleets left them.
5. Planets were allowed to have blank names.
6. Snoop could not be turned off.
NEW FEATURES:
1. Fleets can now be listed by destination. Fleets with the same
destination are sorted by ETA so you can tell the order in
which they will arrive.
2. Brief fleet reports now show the fleets' ROE and ETA.
3. The stardate now appears in the Rankings file.
4. Sysops can now assign interrupt request (IRQ) numbers and
hardware flow control to COM1, COM2, COM3, and COM4.
NEW ECFIX UTILITY:
We have added the ECFIX utility to restore game files in the
unlikely event that they become corrupted. In some cases, messages
and recent orders may be lost. However, our tests show that
restored games are very close to the undamaged ones.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
VERSION 1.10 (Released 03/01/91):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Now supports these BBS Software packages: PCBOARD, GAP, RBBS,
QBBS, RA, FoReM, WILDCAT, SPITFIRE, WWIV, PHOENIX, and any BBS
package that can generate one of the following door files:
PCBOARD.SYS, DOOR.SYS (GAP standard), DORINFOx.DEF, SFDOORS.DAT,
CALLINFO.BBS, INFO.BBS, or CHAIN.TXT.
WHAT'S NEW FOR EC v1.20 - 3 -
VERSION 1.10 (Continued)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
2. When running ECGAME, you can specify the door file name or just
the path and it will hunt for a valid door file.
Ex: PCGAME \BBS\DOOR.SYS (specific file name)
PCGAME \BBS (search for file in BBS directory)
3. More stable interrupt-handling routines to prevent some rare
clashes with other interrupt-driven software such as
Lantastic(tm).
4. Esterian Conquest is now Desqview(tm) aware.
5. A new FIRST-TIME menu for users to browse a game before joining.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
VERSION 1.02 (Released 01/07/91):
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Corrected minor bug which occasionally would not let users into
the game at late hours.
2. Beep alarms for the users no longer echo on the sysop side.
3. Streamlined and modularized internal programming (the files are
smaller and run more efficiently).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
VERSION 1.01 (Released 01/02/91):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Corrected PO box address which was wrong in earlier
documentation.
